Was introduced to bowling at the age of 15
in 1947 by bowling in a High School league. In that first league he bowled a 232 game and
served as league Treasurer. After that first year, did not bowl until joining a military
league. His team won the league championship. Invited to compete in the 3rd Naval District
All Eastern Finals in Philadelphia. His team placed second and he placed fourth in Doubles
and Singles. After his discharge from the military, began bowling in the St. Paul leagues.
Has a personal record of bowling 21 consecutive years (1960 through 1981) in regular
leagues without missing a session. Has served on the Greater St. Paul Men's Bowling
Association Board since 1970 and was President during the 1985-86 season. Chaired many of
the committees including the first Minnesota Food Drive, Bowler's Recognition Dinner and
the High Score Inspection Committee to name a few. Was also President of the St. Paul Hall
of Fame Committee. Has been a national delegate twice and is now serving his eighth year
on the Minnesota State Bowling Association Board. Has served as chairman of the Publicity
and Publication Committee three time and was chairman of the Planning Committee twice.
This past year served on the Hall of Fame Committee, Budget Committee, Planning Committee
(Co-Chair), and the Publicity and Publication Committee (Chair). Also has
served on the tournament working committee the past five years. While Chairman
of the Planning Committee, was instrumental in publishing a 146 page state directors
handguide. Has many bowling accomplishments including a high series of 737, a high game of
286 and a final high season average of 205. His composite average for the past 36 years is
185. Shared the St. Paul City Doubles title with Bob Engelbretson in 1979-80. Placed
fourth in the St. Paul City Actual All Events. Has been a member of 17 league championship
teams, has won several league awards for high game, series and average. Is a member of the
St. Paul 700 Club and has participated in 29 City Tournaments, 13 ABC tournaments and 14
Minnesota State Tournaments. To date is very active and dedicated to the sport of bowling.
